Michael John Abbensetts was a Guyana-born British writer who came to England in the 1963 and became a British citizen in 1974. Inspired by George Osborne’s Look Back in Anger, his first play Sweet Talk premiered at the Royal Court where he subsequently became resident dramatist. He is most known for writing the BBC series Empire Road which premiered in 1978 and was the first British television series to be written, acted and directed predominantly by black artists.
