Synopsis
A rundown boarding house in a poor area of a South African city
“The Maimed” tells the story of a group of people who live in a dilapidated boarding house. Each character is “maimed” in some way, whether physically, emotionally, or spiritually, reflecting the broader maiming of society under the oppressive system of apartheid. The characters include a blind man, a prostitute, a man with a hunchback, and others, each representing different facets of the marginalised and oppressed.
The play explores themes of isolation, despair, and the longing for connection in a dehumanising society. It also delves into the moral corruption and degradation caused by an unjust system.
